Midtown is looking for a People Business Partner to join our People Team and support our 8 clubs and Corporate Headquarters. This hybrid position allows 3 days/week of remote work and will require a presence at our Corporate office in Chicago (3611 N. Kedzie) 2 days/week.
Act as advisor to Midtown leadership on formal policy/process; including but not limited to the oversight of disciplinary meeting process and oversight of disciplinary action for high-risk matters.
Conduct full cycle employee relations investigations as warranted.
Review/approve terminations and ensure termination procedures adhere to Midtown’s policies, as well as municipal, state, and federal laws.
Seek guidance from Sr. People Business Partner when needed. Provide weekly updates to Sr. People Business Partner for all employee relations matters.
Provide timely intervention on Operations matters where solutions may be addressed through partnership with Midtown’s People Department.
Support on Talent Acquisition as needed, approximately 25% of job scope.
Ensure club compliance with municipal, state and federal labor laws; disseminate information to club leadership.
Ensure operational compliance with policies and procedures as outlined in the Midtown Associate Handbook and address misalignment with operational leaders.
Maintain employee records and People Department resource documents on secured drive.
Assist Sr. People Business Partner with record retention and document discovery for EEOC, state Human Rights Departments, and legal matters.
Active participation in team huddles, ad hoc meetings, and other People Team events.
Continue education/training on and maintain awareness of current employment law updates, Human Resources-related trends, and internal policy changes.
Work with Sr. People Business Partner on identifying internal trends and potential areas of risk within the organization through ongoing surveys, employee feedback, exit interviews, etc.
Conduct exit interviews for voluntary separations within corporate and senior leadership team.
Other responsibilities or projects as assigned by the Senior People Business Partner and/or Vice President of People.
At least 2 years of experience as HR Business Partner with heavy focus in employee relations and internal investigations.
At least 1 year of experience in talent acquisition/recruitment.
Fluency in English and Spanish preferred.
Experience in athletic clubs, private clubs, hospitality, retail, or other multi-unit concepts a plus.
Strong communication and presentation skills, both oral and written.
Competent knowledge of labor employment law in multiple markets including Chicago, Illinois and New York.
Expertise on employment practices and ability to quickly adapt to Midtown’s policies and practices.
Possess a solutions-based mindset and problem-solving skills.
Ability to facilitate difficult conversations with employees and leadership while maintaining impartiality and discretion.
Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize numerous tasks.
Travel to clubs, both out of state and local, up to 20%.
Pay Range: $90,000-98,000
